Episode 024 – Best of 2013

Look here’s the deal, we have things from 2013 that we love the most. Keeping that locked away would result in crazy violent outbursts that would leave more than a few people without limbs. Or futures. My therapist is always blabbing on about that not being the correct way to deal with bottled up “best of” lists, and I am inclined to agree. Now, a big part of that court-ordered road to recovery requires that we find someone like you and share all of our favorite things from last year. This is not as troubling as it might sound. We have this podcast and therefore don’t need to confront you personally at work. We can keep any potential incidents to a minimum, and all you have to do is listen to our show. Certainly no need to get the police involved or scream for help. How great is that?! I know I wouldn’t want to mess that up by not tuning in . . .
Which is to say, listen to our podcast or I’ll cut off your legs. You got that right?

Welcome to the Second Annual “A Trouble with Awards” show! This is where we tell you our picks for the best of 2013 in all things video games, movies, and television. To give it our own twist we go against the grain and focus on only the things we experienced in that year. Meaning winners could have been released at any time. All that matters is 2013 is the year we finally got around to them. Think of it as us changing the world for the better, if only because that’s exactly what’s happening.

Merry New Year!

-Josh

What does the fox say? He says, “Happy New Year, Mother Truckers!” At least, that’s what it sounded like to me. Anyway, thank you for joining us as we hand out another batch of “Wordies” – the official A Trouble with Words award show awards for the things that we think are awesome.
I know our official Podcast Anniversary (Podcastversary) is in September, but for some reason, doing our 2nd annual award show feels like more of a milestone to me. Perhaps it’s just because it coincides so nicely with New Years Day, a day already rife with feelings of new beginnings, starting over, and new resolutions. My resolution this year, is to finally make an official A Trouble with Words theme song – Josh and I keep talking about it, and I’ve already got musicians lined to record when I finally get around to writing it – well this year it’s finally, really going to happen. Probably.
Enjoy the show!
-Justin

My GOTY 2013 was Lost Planet 3. You should check it out!

    • Really? I’m surprised by that because It wasn’t terribly well received. I played the demos for both 1 and 2 and couldn’t get into them. They were just too generic I guess. I hope 3 gets a demo because based on your recommendation I want to check it out. I’m curious, what did you think of the first 2? -JL

      • Erin says:

I never played the first 2. I was told before I got LP3 that it was terrible, but I LOVED the look of it and got it anyway. The game is gorgeous. I have so much fun with it too. I affectionately refer to it as “SMASHY SMASHY” because you stomp around in your rig smashing things. There are a lot of video diary type sections in the beginning, and I guess some people found them boring, but they added to the story for me so I liked them. Take a look at some of my screenshots on Steam.
