By all accounts Deadpool never should have been made. It’s a Rated R superhero blockbuster that avoids most of what’s been established to work in films commercially, and instead goes off the beaten path despite the risks. It’s self referential and would seemingly do anything for the joke. Actually I suppose the movie is a lot like the character it’s named after, and that’s probably a big part of why it works so well.
Thinking about it some more I’d like to go a step further. I’m convinced it sounds surprisingly similar to this very podcast (beyond just the obvious muscles and spandex I mean). Hell we’ve even been known to break the fourth wall from time to time and reference the fact that we’re on a podcast. Which if you follow my incredibly flawed logic essentially means that Deadpool supports this podcast personally and PEOPLE’s Sexiest Dad Alive himself Ryan Reynolds is a guest on this very episode! Yay for misleading statements!
